October 14th 2022: The End of an Era

Sorry to inform you, but Cartoon Network has died today. It was a television channel owned by Warner Brothers. One of the most-watched kids’ channels between the late 1990s and 2000s. There was a collection of children's TV shows and cartoons. Its most popular cartoon was Adventure Time.

Perhaps an unknown short list of facts about the company. Its first name was Turner Network. Cartoon Network had Cartoonito for preschool kids' programming in the morning, Toonami for the otakus anglophones.

Children who grew up with the television channel are the young adults of the present day, including myself. There are many affectionate memories associated with it.

Bye Cartoon Network!

Me sitting on the sofa with my father and younger sister watching classics, such as Tom and Jerry, Wacky Races, Top Cat, Woody Woodpecker, Looney Tunes, The New Yogi Bear Show and The Flinstones. Other times we would choose contemporary ones. Such as The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, Dexter’s Laboratory, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Johnny Bravo, and The Powerpuff Girls, and What’s New, Scooby-Doo? I remember playing with its minigames on its website and the toys in kids’ meals from fast-food chains or snacks.

The end of a truce between Millennials and Generation Z is one of their points of connection. However, it is relevant to highlight the power of the storytelling universe. Stories might be forgotten, sadly. Characters are eternal and recalled. The lessons learned are part of today's young adults' conduct and personality. Memories last forever, like the ones I mentioned growing up in 2000s Brazil. We can always share these stories with others, especially the younger ones who did not have luck.

That might not be the official end of the beloved company, but perhaps the one we knew and grew up with. According to the Cartoon Network representatives, this is a false speculation, but the channel is undergone through significant changes. Bye Cartoon Network, see you in the heart-warming memories!
